The Duck's Nest and Crofters' Cottage at North View provide a charming and tranquil space for you to enjoy your stay. Soak up the morning sun with breakfast in your private cottage garden, spend a lazy day watching butterflies and birds beside the wildlife pond, help feed the hens, collect eggs or pick fruit in the orchard. Alternatively, simply relax and unwind in front of the log burner after an active day of walking, cycling or exploring.

Set within beautifully landscaped gardens and forming part of a productive smallholding, North View Cottages are a flower and nature-lovers paradise, where you can be as active or relaxed as you like. And why not make your stay even more special by taking advantage of one of our truly special experiences only available to guests.

The picturesque village of Barningham offers the opportunity to enjoy a pint and a superb meal at the award winning local pub or have afternoon tea at Coghlans tea-room. You can stock up with provisions from the village deli, or set out on any number of beautiful river, woodland and moorland trails right from your doorstep. PLEASE NOTE: the village pub will be temporarily closing in January until a new management team is installed, however, there are three other pubs within a 2 mile radius which all serve food.

Ideally situated between the historic market towns of Barnard Castle and Richmond, you will be spoilt for choice of historic sites, museums, tea-rooms, galleries, parks and gardens to visit, and of course perfectly located for exploring all that the Yorkshire Dales National Park and County Durham have to offer.

County Durham is perfectly located between Yorkshire, The Lake District and Northumberland, so it is an ideal base for exploring a wide area. From the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the rivers Tees & Wear flow through the peaceful, rolling hills of the Durham Dales, forming the valleys of Teesdale and Weardale & tumbling down dramatic waterfalls. From there, they meander through the Vale of Durham passing through many picturesque villages & market towns. Eventually the rivers reach the sweeping beaches, sand dunes and cliffs of the Durham Coast, an area of Special Scientific Interest due to its flora & fauna. The City of Durham was listed as one of England's most beautiful cities by the National Geographic, and The Telegraph named it as one of the best UK City breaks for 2023.

Just 15 minutes from Scotch Corner, this hidden gem is very easy to get to whilst enjoying the complete peace and tranquility of a traditional Yorkshire village.
